Nightmare
As quick as it went down, the rage went back up and I threw
another shot glass against the wall. Lily whimpered then, and as soon as it
left her white snout, I threw myself at her and apologized, “I’m so sorry,
girl, Meli did it,” I bent down and picked up the shards, careful of Lily, “Promise
me, Lily, you’ll never be dumb like daddy and fall in love, it hurts. It really
does,” I turned and looked Lily, who sat at the entrance, watching dumbfounded.
At this point, I couldn’t walk straight, nor even have a
single word leave my lips completely. Even Lily could smell the alcohol in my
breath. Yet how can I convince his dog that it wasn’t his fault?
If any good came out of this rotten, shit filled relationship and pain was Lily, I thought.
If any good came out of this rotten, shit filled relationship and pain was Lily, I thought.
Lily belonged to Meli at one point. Henry looked back at if
fondly. Meli had gotten Lily from her first dog and watched her grow up. Meli
then thought it would be best to take Lily away, since her parents already had
too many dogs. Even though I was completely against having dogs, due to the
fact that every dog I ever tried to own or even approach would growl and bite my
hands. Lily was the first to coward away
in fear, and then slowly come to me and cuddle. Soon, we both felt comfortable
eating in the same space, until it became tradition to eat right next to each
other.
It got so bad, or good, that Lily cannot, and will not, eat
until I served myself and if I came home late, Lily would make sure that I had
someone to wait for me at the door, ready to give me a full day’s love.
Meli did something right.
“She destroyed my heart, Lil, but here you are,” I picked
Lily up and tightly hugged her,” She gave me you,” and placed her back down,
“Please never know pain, baby.”
I lower myself to begin cleaning the mess I made. Once I
finished, I decided it would be best for
me to head over to the living room and put his soul to rest. As I left the
kitchen, I turned the lights off and walk down the dimly lit hallway and into
the dark living room. I lie on the couch and look up to the ceiling. Lily
follows and lies next to me.
I doze off and am soon awaken by the barking as Lily stares
in attack mode down the hall. I thought she was right beside me, but I soon
realize that’s not the case. I can hear her whimper and like lightning, I jolt
up and power walk to her. As I draw closer, I see she’s barking at the brightly
lit dining room.
“Lily, I know your perception of time sucks, but it’s
fucking late, mate,” I exclaim as I rub my eyes, but as soon as I finish my
sentence, I remember that I had turned the light off.
Or maybe that was
just the kitchen light, right?
Mechanically, I make my way to the kitchen and pours myself
a shot as I try to process what just happened and how it could have happened.
All I could come up with was that Lily did it and with that, I took the shot.
I grab the bottle I took a shot from, and turn the lights
off, for sure this time. I make my way
down the hall, and at the same time my phone, in the dining room, goes off and I
stop and head back and grab it.
David sent me a text:
BRO!! You’re missing
out!!! Like WTF?? Plasma, NOW!!
“What am I missing out on?” I thought out loud, not life at
the moment. I have some alcohol here. As I try to text with my left hand, I see a light
flicker in front of me. I walk down the hall and before I finish the text, I
look up and see the light flowing out of the living room.
Now, I feel bothered.
Upset, My paranoia kicks in.
“Lil? There is a fucking ghost in the house, babe,” he
whispers,” Fuck.”
Ding! My phone goes off again, startling him.
DUDE!! ……come to
plamsa
As soon as I saw the text, the ghost floated out of my head
and David took residence and continue my text:
Some other night
Ding!
It’s lit bro
I’m about to crash,
see ya, be safe- I text him back.
PUSSSSSsyyyyy c:
Have some on me…LMAO
red pussy, white
pussy, wet pussy…ALL OF IT on you? Hahahhahahha ok…no homo!
I misspelled plasma…go
night night
I put my phone back down in my pocket and quickly forget all
about the light in the living room, which is now off, and I head up to shower.
Once I finish, I dry myself and put on a clean pair of
boxers and pat my hair dry. As I have my head tilted down, I can’t help but
look at the crack of the bedroom door and see that a small beam of light is
faintly spilling in.
“What the fuck?”
I know for a fact
that he turned them off, or did I?
It must be the light in the hall. Yet, at this point my
paranoia kicks back in and I remember that I never went back in to the living
room and when I left, the lights were off.
His mind starts going in numerous directions, but before he
can chase them, a shadow flies by on the other side of his door.
“There is someone else in here.,”
A tangible, human
being right outside my room. Waiting for me.
Lily begins to bark now.
Lily begins to bark now.
I head to my closet and grabs my bat. I yell, “Who’s out
there?”
I throw open the door and makes my way down the stairs as I
continue to call out to the strangers. As I make it down the stairs, I can see
the lit living room and go on to check the doors and windows, assuring myself
that it could not be an intruder as there are no signs of a break in. But when I
come to this realization, I wish that it had been human.
As I fully process this thought, I make my way to the
kitchen and drink straight out of the bottle. As I put the bottle down, from
the corner of my eyes, I see a figure move across the living room and now is at
the end of the dining room.
And as soon as I lose sight of the figure, the light in the living rooms goes out.
I run out of the kitchen, dropping the bottle, and race up
the stairs not daring to look back until I reach the top, even if it is just a
split second.
Was that a shadow? Or
my drunk imagination?
I must be drunk and tired. I look at the time and see it is
twenty to three and decide to call it night, no matter what.
I place the bat next to the bed and call Lily to the foot of the bed and turn the lights off, with the exception of the restroom light. I decide to leave the door open just enough to have the light bathe the corner of the room, near the closet. I look at the ceiling and stare at the center as I doze to sleep.

Not even an hour later, my eyelids pop open and my heart
races as I try to move a shaking hand towards my chest. But as soon as I do, I become aware that the restroom
light is now off and the light is coming from under the bedroom door. My eyes
move back to the restroom door, and from the corner of my left eye, I watch the
same shadow slowly make its way to the corner of my bed.
The air grows colder.
I can’t move, and it inches closer.
I whimper, helplessly, as it climbs on to the bed.
My heart races and my fingers violent twitch as it smiles
down on me while I watch it tightens its grip around my heart.
