Happy Weekend, Nuggets!!
XX (2017)-
A film that involves five female directors introducing us to four kinds of horrors and thrills.
And get this - all in the female point of view.
The opening of the film is so fucking creepy that I needed to look away for a few seconds especially when...well... you tell me
The creepy childhood stop frame animation is directed by Sofia Carillo and is what houses all four of our demented families and unsettling events.
All the creepy wonders and sense of abandonment and hopelessness leads us straight to our first horror.
Without spoiling all the wonderment that is the film I will try my best not to give away to much....
But you have been warned
The Box - Directed by Jovanka Vuckovic
We begin with a mother with her children in a train.
Her son, curious at the box a man seated besides him is holding, decides to ask the man questions until the man offers him a peek claiming it to be a gift.
The boy with all his curiosity says yes and the old man shows him what is inside and from that point on the life of him is drained
This continues for the remainder of the film, claiming more and more,
But what makes this the most upsetting story, in my opinion, is the reaction of the mother as her child goes through such life threatening events,
I mean shit, Dad has something to say..
In the end, she is left unsatisfied.
Vuckovic builds the suspense with every scene, leaving us to wonder her every move as to what is coming up next. The tension builds as the father can no longer stand for what is happening to his child and tries talking to him. With no knowledge of what is really happening, this is one part of life I would never want to go through.
The Birthday Party - Directed by Annie Clark
This one was by far my favorite installment. We have yet another unsuspecting family getting ready to be dealt what fate has in store and fuck
What a memory!!!
Mom is getting ready to celebrate her daughters birthday and the nanny is also over getting ready to help because, as a parent you have to throw the best fucking party ever.
And we are reunited with a familiar face,
Just not a familiar situation.
Or, at least for your sake, I hope not....
While the nanny gets to work with the daughter and some other fun birthday stuff
Mom gets stuck with her own chores to deal with
This segment, you just have to watch for your yourself.
Clark has us enticed from the very first scene leaving us speculating and hoping no one ever finds out.
In a sense, if you are a parent, you can relate, you know..
Wanting to throw the best birthday party for the kid all the while from keeping them from the real life issues that impact everyday life
Even, though, this is not common, once more, I hope...
At the end, this is one hell of a birthday
Don't Fall - directed by Roxanne Benjamin
The third installment of the film involves four adults
out and about in a dessert and they stumble upon an ancient cave with weird paintings...
and we all know how this one goes, right??
Anywho, the gang is getting ready for the night and one the guys feels it only to be fair to scare the living shit out of the scaredy cat Gretchen
So, she says fuck that, I am heading to bed,
And, that, is when the shit hits the fan
Once she wakes up, it's every man for themselves
Remember all these stories are from the point of view the female.
Her only living son - directed by Karyn Kasuma
This is one that as well since it alludes to Rosemary's Baby and if you haven't seen that film, I highly recommend it, but this installment is so good on it's own that you don't need to know the events of Rosemary's Baby.
We have a small family, mother and son, and Mom does anything to keep her son's life a secret.
We learn that she left home, in order to avoid a few things, but soon we learn that not all things are avoidable.
Everyone claims her son is special and the go to far lengths to keep his behavior under the rug
Oh, and his dad is coming for him
Yea...
For Rosemary fans, it offers a take on one of the alternative futures of what could have been
Truly goes to show, how far a mother is willing to go for their flesh and blood
Well there you have it guys.
Make sure to check out XX on Netlfix.

Let me know what you think of the film!
It gets disturbing, y'all..
Muah.
